What is a Blood Oximeter?

Used mostly on patients with heart or lung conditions, a blood oximeter measures the amount of oxygen concentration in the blood. Displayed as a percentage on the screen, this device utilizes a red infrared light that passes through the skin to the blood vessels and takes the measurement based on the color of the patient’s blood and their pulse. The brighter the red color is, the more oxygen it contains. In other words, if the blood is a blue/purple color, it is deoxygenated. This helpful monitor allows healthcare professionals to treat the patient before the oxygen concentration gets to a critical level.

Low Maintenance

Does not require any routine calibration or maintenance other than replacement of the batteries. Batteries provide approximately 30 hours of continuous operation (approximately 3,000 measurements).

I am an ER and hospice nurse so I bought this pulse oximeter for my in-home visits of hospice patients. It is the easiest and quickest type of thermometer to use on my clients and provides great accuracy.
